U.S. President on Armageddon
As reported in the New York Times, after a recent discussion with President Reagan, Alabama Senator Howell Heflin told newsmen: “We got off into the Bible a little bit. It is commendable that such high-ranking public officials do not dismiss lightly what the Bible says about Armageddon. However, is Armageddon actually a catastrophic final war between blocs of nations as these officials apparently believe? Rather, it is a selective war in which God will use his power to cleanse the earth of wickedness.—Revelation 16:14, 16, Authorized Version; compare Revelation 19:11-19.

As Revelation 17:5, 16, 17 shows, all segments of false religion worldwide—“Babylon the Great”—will be devastated at that same time, preliminary to the war at Armageddon, the finale of the “great tribulation.”—Revelation 16:14, 16; 19:11-21.

Thus, in April of 1923, my twin brother Norman and I, when we were not yet eighteen years of age, found ourselves reporting at Bethel, the Society’s Brooklyn headquarters, ready to begin working on this new project.
My first assignment was feeding the booklet Our Lord’s Return onto a stitching machine. The overseer explained how to do it and, pointing to a huge pile of booklets, he said: “Hurry up and get the job done because Armageddon is coming!”
