So alarming are the possible consequences of another world war that repeated references have been made by the world’s leaders and scientists to Armageddon. (Revelation 16:14, 16) They simply view it as a man-made holocaust, whereas the Bible associates Armageddon with “the war of the great day of God the Almighty.”

And though its foothold seemed tenuous at first, the tiny nation has for over three decades held its own in the troubled Middle East. Many see in modern Israel’s birth the hand of divine intervention and a sure sign that Armageddon is near.

Nevertheless, many books, films and TV evangelists are promoting a popular view that the Middle East is the future site of Armageddon.
But will Armageddon really take place in the Middle East? Actually, how will this “war of the great day of God the Almighty” be fought? What will lead up to it? How can a person survive Armageddon? And what will follow that great war?

Today, the earth is far from being a paradise. Yet the “great crowd” of “other sheep” have come into a spiritual paradise. (Revelation 7:9; John 10:16) How? It is by dedicating their lives to Jehovah, conforming to his requirements and associating with the anointed remnant who have been brought into the spiritual paradise from 1919 onward. (Compare Ezekiel 38:8-16.) There they are being prepared and equipped for life in the earthly Paradise that will follow the tribulation at Armageddon.

□ What is the real significance of the word “Har–Magedon”?
The meaning of the word is “mountain of assembly of troops.” Thus Har–Magedon, or Armageddon, is not literally a place on earth, but it is the state of the world rulers in being gathered together against God the Almighty in warfare. (Revelation 16:13-16)—11/1, pages 3-6.
