It is in reference to what the Bible terms the battle of Armageddon.  Undoubtedly you have heard of it and know there there are many different conceptions as to what Armageddon, General MacArthur recently stated: ‘We have had our last chance.  If we will not devise some greater and more equitable system, our Armageddon will be at our door.’  Also Cardinal Spellman stated: ‘Security and stability are nowhere on the horizon. Perhaps we see the world hurrying to Armageddon, from which no nation may hope to survive.’ What is Armageddon.” It is very important for us to understand what it is, what it will do, when it will occur and what we must do to survive.  I can stay only a few minutes, as I want to share this important information with many of our neighbors, so just briefly this is what the Bible tells us about Armageddon:

Conclusion, “Isn’t it good news to realize there will be survivors of Armageddon? I am glad that I could share this information with you and trust that you can see that Armageddon, the selective war, will destroy only the wicked and that there will be righteous survivors.  As we read in that last scripture, if we want to survive Armageddon we need knowledge on the subject.  To this end the Watchtower Society has published this book, ‘You May Survive Armageddon into God’s New World.’ Notice here on pages 367 and 368 that it enumerates 42 types and prophecies of the earthly heirs of God’s new world.  Did you realize there were so many examples in the Bible to indicate survivors of Armageddon? And here on page 14, paragraph 13, we are told . . . [read portion or make points]. I feel sure you will want to profit from the contents of this fine Bible study aid and this booklet, which you may have for the small contribution of 50c.  It will definitely aid you to learn more about Armageddon and how you may survive.”

“A SECT Anticipates Armageddon.” Thus Life, November 22, 1954, introduced a picture story about a group of Seventh-Day Adventists who made a flight to the woods as a defense test.

And says nuclear physicist Dr. L. Gable: “I must warn you that we are at the doorstep of the battle of Armageddon if we do not succumb to a spiritual awakening,” World War I was termed Armageddon, then World War II,  and now their dreaded successor is also feared as an Armageddon.

But not one of these is the Armageddon. As the Encyclopedia Americana shows, the term “has come to be used for any great slaughter or conflict.” Worried about an atomic-war Armageddon, men are overlooking the real Armageddon, “the war of the great day of God the Almighty.”

The real Armageddon is near, and in overlooking it men are without excuse, as warning regarding it is being sounded far and wide.

There are three main reasons why God will bring Armageddon to pass.

Armageddon will square all accounts, end all oppression and avenge all blood unrighteously shed, whether of man or of beast.

Secondly, Armageddon will be fought to deliver the righteous, even as the destruction of Pharaoh and his hosts in the Red Sea brought deliverance to the nation of Israel.

And, most important of all, Armageddon will be fought to prove that Jehovah is the Supreme Sovereign, that he is the God almighty in power and perfect in justice, love and wisdom.

At Armageddon Jehovah will hurl his answer in their face by destroying them, thus answering the psalmist’s prayer of some three thousand years ago, that he would make them to “know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah, art the Most High over all the earth.”-Psalm 83:18, Am. Stan. Ver.

That Armageddon is at the door the fulfillment of Bible prophecy clearly indicates.

And where will Armageddon be fought? Throughout the whole earth and its immediate vicinity.

This prophecy and its context, telling of the nations’ being angry and Satan’s knowing he has but a short time left, also locates Armageddon in our day. In the prophecy of Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39, Satan and his hosts are identified as Gog and his forces, and their location-in the immediate vicinity of the earth after their having been cast out of heaven-as the land of Magog.

There being no question as to the outcome of Armageddon, what next concerns us is the nature of the conflict.

Armageddon will come upon God’s enemies as a shocking surprise, as a thief in the night, as travail upon a woman, and they will not. be able to escape.

All those who are responsible for wars between nations or who engage in them will also be destroyed, for Armageddon will be the final war; by means of it God “maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth,” and will destroy all war equipment. (Psalm 46:9) And since Armageddon is primarily for the purpose of making all to know who Jehovah is, those who now willingly refuse to know Jehovah will be made to know him at Armageddon. However, then it will be to their everlasting destruction, while to learn to know him now means everlasting life.  Therefore all who support the present wicked system of things, knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly, will fall at Armageddon, even as Jesus emphasized when he said: “He that is not on my side is against me.”-Matthew 12:30, New World Trans.

So the filling of the earth by the other sheep surviving Armageddon will betoken or represent or demonstrate Jehovah’s power to accomplish the procreation mandate in this way, and hence may be called a representative fulfillment or a token fulfillment, but not a complete one that would leave no room for the later resurrection of “those who practiced vile things.”

The following year (1923) on August 25, in Los Angeles, California, another convention of Jehovah’s witnesses unanimously adopted another fiery resolution entitled “A Warning.” It was one of the strongest denunciations ever delivered against “those who pretend to be Christians, but do not believe in the Bible as God’s inspired Word of truth, who repudiate the doctrines of the fall of man and his redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ, which class is made up of apostate clergymen and ‘the principal of their flocks’, who are worldly men of strong financial and political influence, which class exercises the controlling influence and power in the denominational organizations.” These are the ones under Gog’s influence and control who “have with selfish design,” the resolution declared, “invaded the schools, colleges, seminaries and universities with their God-dishonoring doctrines of higher criticism and evolution, [and] have led the people into gross error and destroyed the faith of multitudes in the inspired Word of God.” Millions of copies of this resolution, together with the supporting argument entitled “All Nations Marching to Armageddon,” were freely distributed throughout the earth.

● Page 170 of You May Survive Armageddon into God’s New World speaks of tribulation as a windstorm and says we are now in the calm center or “eye of the hurricane.” Page 181 speaks of the time of tribulation, its being cut short, and its resumption, and this tribulation seems to be used to involve Armageddon. Does this mean Armageddon has started, that we are in a lull in the battle at this time? And on page 199 Armageddon is used to mean God’s visible organization rather than a battle. How is this so?—D. The word “Armageddon” is from the Hebrew expression Har Megiddo, which means “Mountain of Megiddo.” This was a strategic spot in the land God gave to his chosen people and in its vicinity armies gathered for battles. Har Megiddo means “mount of assembly of troops.” Being in the land of Jehovah’s people, it would be a place of assembly of his servants or troops, and so the symbolic Armageddon or mountain of Megiddo is the assembled, gathered witnesses of Jehovah now on earth that are soldiers for God and Christ in the present theocratic warfare of Kingdom truth against entrenched religious lies. With this meaning in mind page 199 says: “The kings or rulers of the entire inhabited earth march against God’s visible organization, the symbolic Armageddon or mountain of Megiddo for a decisive fight.”
